Chris’ 30 Day Song Challenge

So I see everyone here has been taking part in this 30 Day Song Challenge.  I was told I had to do so as well.  As far as music goes for me, I am all over the map.  My philosophy is, “If the song is good, I like it.”  My other philosophy is, “Rob controls the music I listen to.”  Make of that what you will.  Anyway, lets get to the list…

Day 01 – Your favorite song – “Wonderwall” by Oasis

Day 02 – Your least favorite song – “Cha Cha Slide” by DJ Casper (Mr. C)

To me, this song is like nails on a chalkboard.  From the first time I ever heard it and saw moronic people following along to the mindless instructions from the song, I was annoyed.  On top of that, sporting events now use the “Everybody clap your hands” line to get the crowd riled up.  I always refuse.

Day 03 – A song that makes you happy – “Hell Song’” by Sum 41

I don’t know why but whenever I hear this song I just perk up and can’t help but swing my arms and pump my fists wherever I am standing. This song also brings a smile to my face when I think about the brilliant music video they put together involving a concert performed by action figures with famous peoples faces taped onto the heads.

Day 04 – A song that makes you sad – “Mad World” by Gary Jules

This one does have an awesome music video as well, though.

Day 05 – A song that reminds you of someone – “Twelve 46am” by Aspen It Is

I met fellow contributer Rob our freshman year of college.  He lived in my dorm and when we first met came over a lot to play video games and chill.  EVERY time he came to my room he would hop on a computer and put on this song.  Don’t ask me why, but ever since its been an all time favorite.  On top of that, a year later we wound up going to see the band perform in a high school gymnasium.  The chorus of the song is “What would you do if you took my shoes?”  At the performance, when the song started Rob proceeded to take his shoe off and shove it in the lead singers face.  The lead singer did not appreciate it, but I most certainly did.

Day 06 – A song that reminds of you of somewhere – Anything by Boyz II Men

Any time I hear a Boyz II Men song my mind is immediately shot back to grammar school dances.  Did I have dirty thoughts running through my head with my hands around a girls waist and a 2 foot gap between our bodies as “I’ll Make Love to You” blasted through my Catholic school’s gym? You’re damn right I did!

Day 07 – A song that reminds you of a certain event – “Who Let the Dogs Out” by Baha Men

This song reminds me of the first time I heard it at a New Jersey Red Dogs arena football game.  At the time I just thought the football team had created a really catchy theme song.  Whoops.

Day 08 – A song that you know all the words to – “Gangsta’s Paradise” by Coolio

Day 09 – A song that you can dance to – “Electric Slide”

Now this is a line dance I can get behind.  There’s no stupid instruction as to what to do.  You just gotta study the dancers out there and jump on in!  Boogie oogie oogie oogie.

Day 10 – A song that makes you fall asleep – “Rock-a-bye Baby”

Day 11 – A song from your favorite band – “Ok I Believe You…” by Brand New

Day 12 – A song from a band you hate – “Screaming Infidelities” by Dashboard Confessional

God I can’t stand these whiners.  It brings me great pleasure to see so many people love this band.  Makes my hate for them that much sweeter.

Day 13 – A song that is a guilty pleasure – “Poker Face” by Lady Gaga

Day 14 – A song that no one would expect you to love – “Be My Lover” by La Bouche

La da da dee da da da da!

Day 15 – A song that describes you – The Sleeping

I know these are supposed to be songs but I had to switch this last one up to a band because there is nothing in this world that could describe me better than that band name right there.

Day 16 – A song that you used to love but now hate – “Don’t Stop Believin” by Journey

Day 17 – A song that you hear often on the radio – “How You Remind Me” by Nickleback

I don’t know if this question meant only current songs.  In that case it would be “ET” by Katy Perry.  Woo boy is that song on A LOT.  However, whenever I think about a song being played on the radio a lot I think the gold standard is How You Remind Me.  That song fit into the demographic for every freaking radio station on my dial.  You could not avoid if you tried.

Day 18 – A song that you wish you heard on the radio – “Hot Dog” by Limp Bizkit

Simply because of the 46 f*cks in this f*cked up rhyme. Yeah!

Day 19 – A song from your favorite album – “Millstone” by Brand New

The Devil and God Are Raging Inside of Me is my favorite album.

Day 20 – A song that you listen to when you’re angry – “Right Now” by Korn

Whenever I listened to this song I got the urge to run through a wall or kick someones ass.  One day I decided to research it a little and came to find out that the inspiration behind the song was exactly that.  Well then.

Day 21 – A song that you listen to when you’re happy – “Smooth Criminal” by Alien Ant Farm

Day 22 – A song that you listen to when you’re sad – “What Comes Around” by Justin Timberlake

Most of my sadness has been at the hands of crappy girls.  This song always let me know JT’s got my back.

Day 23 – A song that you want to play at your wedding – “Pour Some Sugar on Me” by Def Leppard

Day 24 – A song that you want to play at your funeral – “Carry on Wayward Son” by Kansas

Day 25 – A song that makes you laugh – “More BJ” by Parks of Lyndhurst

I was actually present when this song was written.  Words cannot describe the energy in the room when Jeremy (band member) thought up the line “There’s nothing I love more than BJ on the floor or after a hot date so I don’t have to masterbate.”

Day 26 – A song that you can play on an instrument – “What if God Was One of Us?” by Joan Obsourne (on bass)

Quite possibly the greatest bass riff ever.

Day 27 – A song that you wish you could play – The intro to “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne

Day 28 – A song that makes you feel guilty – “I’m a Bitch” by Meredith Brooks

I thought this was a dumb category so I just threw out another guilty pleasure song.

Day 29 – A song from your childhood – “Tubthumping” by Chumba Wumba

When fellow contributer Dan and I were younger we watched the VH1 Top 10 Countdown together every saturday after floor hockey.  EVERY damn week Jewel’s “Foolish Games” was #1 and it pissed us off to no end.  Then finally, the savior arrived in the form of this glorious, glorious song.

Day 30 – Your favorite song at this time last year – “Bro Hymn” by Pennywise
